On Our Way to Finding Time
/Starling HQ is filling up with sketches of puppets and props, children's clothing, endless deliveries, recordings of sound effects and a To Do list as far as the eye can see. All this can mean only one thing: Summer School is coming!
All this in mind, it's no surprise that the other day I woke from a chaotic dream that we went ahead with the show with an incomplete cast, crew and set, and didn't realise it 'til the performances were over and we wondered why it 'had holes'. My mind is clearly filled with every possible eventuality and consumed by all things Summer School, and I love it!
There's something about being so engrossed in a project for an intensive period that - the hard work aside - is incredibly self-indulgent. We eat, drink, (dream), and breathe Summer School every year, and devoting your time to one thing over a fortnight is unlike anything else we do in the Starling calendar, which makes it all the more fun and creative.
This year, for the third time, Emily and I have written the musical and it's even more exciting to see something that's come out of our heads unfold on stage. I can't wait to hear voices other than our own speak and sing the lines of Finding Time, and to watch our talented young cast prove how much can be achieved in just ten days of rehearsal.
As blogged earlier this year, this is to be our last full summer production in Devon and there's a slight melancholy attached to that. However I know that, for many reasons, this year's production will be something quite special, so here's to Summer School 2016 and all the fun it has in store!
Performances will be at Chagford Jubilee Hall (Devon) on Thursday August 4th, Friday August 5th and Saturday August 6th 2016 at 7.30pm, with a 2.30pm matinee on Saturday 6th also.
Tickets for Finding Time cost just £7.50 (£6.50 for under 16s) are available in person from Fowlers, Chagford.
